schoolarships

The Julius Nyerere Master's Scholarships

The University of Edinburgh will offer three scholarships to students from Tanzania for postgraduate Master's study in any subject offered by the University for the 2013-2014 academic session.
The Julius Nyerere Scholarship was set up in 2009 in memory of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere who led Tanganyika to independence in 1961 and became the first prime minister and later president of Tanzania. Nyerere received a scholarship in 1949 to attend the University of Edinburgh where he obtained a Masters of Arts degree that saw him study courses in English, Political Economy, Social Anthropology, British History, Economic History, Constitutional Law, and Moral Philosophy.
The Julius Nyerere Master's Scholarships will cover the full overseas tuition fee, living costs of £10,000, and a return flight from Tanzania to the UK.
The scholarships will be tenable for one academic year. In addition to their studies, the successful applicants will each be expected to participate in Swahili language conversation tutorials. This will amount to no more than 20 hours for each scholar per semester.

Eligibility

The scholarships will be awarded to Tanzanian citizens who are normally resident in Tanzania, and who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master's programme of study at the University of Edinburgh. Applicants who already hold a degree from outside Tanzania will not be considered.
Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.

Criteria

The three Scholarships are awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit, with candidates requiring a Bachelors degree equivalent to a UK First Class Honours ('First') or Upper Division/Upper Second Class Honours ('2:1') degree.
N.B. The Julius Nyerere Master’s Scholarships are highly competitive and only the best candidates are considered. Prospective applicants should note that, to date, in almost all cases successful candidates for the Scholarships have held a First Class Honours degree. Applicants with a 2:1 Honours degree will be considered if they can show a very strong track record of work experience relevant to their prospective degree.

Applying

Eligible applicants should complete an online scholarship application.
The closing date for applications for these scholarships is 1 April 2013.
In Section 3b - "Personal Statement Continued", applicants should write an additional statement: To help identify the very best candidates, this year the committee asks that applicants write between 500 and 800 of words that completes the following: Julius Nyerere would advocate for the University of Edinburgh to offer a basic Swahili language course because...
Without this statement, your application will not be considered.
Please note that you will not be able to access the online application form unless you have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh and have full EASE authentication.

Selection Procedure

A Selection Committee will meet in mid May 2013 to select the scholarship holder. The winners of the scholarships will be announced in late May 2013.

Four dead in Tanzania building collapse..may God save my county Tanzania

Rescuers planned to search for survivors under a mountain of concrete and twisted metal Friday night after a high-rise building collapsed in Tanzania, CNN reported.
At least four people were dead and 60 were missing after the 16-story building under construction collapsed in Tanzania's largest city, government and emergency officials said.
Five children are believed to be among the missing, rescue official Walji Ali said.
The building collapsed Friday with a "huge whoosh and then thump," said eyewitness Ali Jawad Bhimani, a hotel owner who lives near the building in Dar es Salaam's normally bustling Kariakoo central business district.
"The fallen building is next to our mosque. There is a small field there where the young boys play football. The building fell right on top," he said. "But 10 to 15 of the boys playing got away safely and are unharmed."
A statement from the nearby mosque said that four of the boys believed to have been playing there were still missing.
Police and search dogs quickly flooded the scene, Bhimani said. By Friday evening, the dogs were gone, replaced by heavy equipment being used to remove debris, he said.

billions of dollars found in Tanzania natural gas

Tanzania oil and/or gas status and trend
The data available from the past ten years' rigorous oil and gas exploration indicate Tanzania to possess
substantive quantity of gas and oil potential. Nine gas fields are confirmed to have been encountered in
Tanzania. Onshore fields include Mnazi Bay, Mkuranga, Songo Songo and Kiliwani-North. Offshore fields
include Pweza, Chewa, Chaza, Jodari and Zafarani. Two fields, Songo Songo and Mnazi Bay are on
production stream. However, TPDC had, by 2009, estimated 7.72 Trillion cubic feet (Tcf) worth of natural
gas in four of its natural gas rich areas - Songo Songo harbours 1-2 Tcf, Mnazi Bay 3-5 Tcf, Kiliwani 70 Bcf,
and Mkuranga 200 Bcf to have been respectively confirmed2
.
Songo Songo gas field has been producing commercially since 2004, providing gas for power generation
input to the national grid, and for some Dar es Salaam manufacturing industries direct power uses. The
Mnazi Bay gas field has been producing since early 2007, also providing power for the southern areas of
Mtwara, Lindi, Masasi, Newala and Nachingwea.
Gas drilling is ongoing in three onshore wells (Ziwani-1, SSA-11 and Ntorya-1). The Ntorya-1 well in
Ruvuma Basin, Zafarani-1 and Zafarani-1A wells in Block2, and Jodari-1 well in Block 1 have all been
declared to be gas discoveries. In addition, the Zafarani-1 well has been side-tracked.
